Steel Handrail Bracket - Prototype 1

I’ve often thought about building out a catalogue of custom steel architectural products that I could retail online and thought this could be a good place to start.

I started this piece with a 2 1/2″ length of W6x12.5, and then cut the flange lengthwise to create the tee sections.  Next I piloted the mounting holes in the rough blocks, then I used a grooved butt weld to stich the pieces back together.  I ground the welds flush and abraded the whole thing to get the finish to be uniform.  I later went back and  bored out the pilot holes to receive countersunk #10 machine screws. I left the bracket unfinished in the photos, but I think it would look good in a variety of finishes, either satin or matt.
